About
Over the centuries, the Jouffreau family at Clos de Gamot has worked the vines, raised the wine and lived to the rhythm of the glory and misfortune of Cahors wine. Misfortune came in 1882 when phylloxera began to attack the Clos de Gamot vineyard. The vine was dying. Guillaume Jouffreau then on the farm, takes during the winters 1883-1884, the last Malbec shoots of a few preserved vines and tries several grafts. The Malbec on the Herbemont rootstock succeeds! These new plants are resistant to phylloxera: Guillaume Jouffreau has just saved the Clos de Gamot vineyard but also the whole of the Cahors vineyard which will be replanted largely thanks to clones from the Clos de Gamot vines.
