About

Château La Roque is an iconic historic wine estate nestled in the heart of the Pic Saint-Loup appellation, in Fontanès, north of Montpellier. Spanning nearly 80 hectares, including approximately 32 hectares of terraced vineyards, the estate offers an exceptional landscape: a natural amphitheater facing south/southeast, carved into the scrubland on a terroir of clay-limestone scree. The remains of a feudal castle bear witness to a rich and ancient history, and the property is distinguished by its commitment to biodynamic viticulture, aiming to express the minerality and character of its terroir as accurately as possible. Grape varieties & vintages: The red and rosé wines are mainly made from Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre. For the whites: Viognier, Rolle (Vermentino), Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Assyrtiko, and Malvoisie. Among the flagship vintages is “La Cupa,” a powerful red made from Syrah and Mourvèdre, regularly praised by the specialized press. Wine tourism approach: The estate offers guided tours and tastings, as well as ampelographic walks in the scrubland around the vineyards, to discover the history, geology, and biodiversity of La Roque.
