Situated on the site of the city walls’ former moats, the square has been a true green institution for two centuries. Recently, this 3-hectare park, regarded as the city’s green lung, underwent a renovation aimed at restoring a major piece of ecological heritage. Enhanced with new paths, the square is now more open to the outside world. Not to be missed: take a look at the oldest plane trees (1809) near the Belloch fountain. Admire a Ginkgo biloba with a circumference of 3.80 m and a height of 30 m, and two hundred-year-old Washingtonia filifera palms, each 18 m tall! Dogs are not permitted, even on a lead, with the exception of guide dogs for the blind.
