Built in the Middle Ages, the bridge at Saint Etienne-d’Issensac spans the Hérault near the ancient priory of the same name. It was used by pilgrims on their way to Saint Guilhem, a stopover on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. It was built in the shape of a donkey’s back, and retains three of its five original arches. Under the Ancien Régime, Saint-Etienne-d’Issensac was a parish of around 70 inhabitants, made up of several tenant farms.
