Nestled in the heart of Elne, the Terrus Museum invites you to explore two fascinating worlds. On the ground floor, the exhibition ‘The Birth of a Bishopric’ showcases recently discovered ancient sarcophagi, enriching an exceptional collection. These artefacts, displayed with great finesse, offer an insight into the town’s religious and archaeological history. Upstairs, discover the brand-new exhibition dedicated to Étienne Terrus (1857–1922), a master of watercolour born in Elne. A close friend of Maillol, Matisse and Derain, he captured the light of the Roussillon in his works. Unbound by any particular school, though influenced by the Fauves in his later works, Terrus painted a vibrant and sensitive landscape. An essential rediscovery of a major artist from the region. The second floor is dedicated to temporary exhibitions, running until November 2026: paintings by Maria Lluis.
