Musée de l’Éphèbe et d’Archéologie sous-marine
Le Cap d’Agde , Hérault – Cultureel erfgoed
Over
Located in a green setting at the entrance to Cap d’Agde, the Musée de l’Ephèbe et d’archéologie sous-marine showcases the wealth of Agde’s heritage.
These exceptional collections, the fruit of 50 years of discoveries in the Hérault River, at sea and in the Etang de Thau, bear witness to Agde’s economic activity over the centuries. For Agathé, a 2,600-year-old Greek city and crossroads of civilizations, has revealed a wealth of sunken treasures: shipments of crockery, armaments for the royal navy, maritime transport of amphorae and raw materials, trade in works of art… including the famous statue of Alexander of Agde, known as “the Ephesian”, the only Hellenistic bronze to have been found in French waters.
Etruscans, Greeks, Romans, Celts, Visigoths, Saracens, Vikings, Spaniards, Italians: all have left their mark on Agatha’s history.
