Step into history at this former country residence of the Bishops of Condom, dating back to the 13th century. Discover the charm of its remarkable 16th-century kitchen with its elegant “cul-de-four” vaulted ceiling, and explore the atmospheric Armagnac aging cellar, nestled within what was once the old armory. A unique experience where heritage, architecture, and the art of tasting come together.

In the Heart of the Grand Site Occitanie “Armagnac, Abbeys and Historic Towns”

Embark on a journey of discovery to one of Gascony’s must-see destinations — Château de Cassaigne.

Just 6 km from Condom, 5 km from Flaran Abbey, and 35 minutes from Auch, this remarkable historic site is deeply rooted in the region’s winemaking heritage. Surrounded by more than 30 hectares of vineyards, the estate’s fame was built on its Armagnac production, which made this former residence of the Bishops of Condom renowned throughout Gascony. Today, the château also stands as a flagship estate for the great wines of Côtes de Gascogne.

A Château Steeped in History

First built in the 13th century by Montassin de Goalard, Abbot of Condom, on a strategic site, the château has undergone numerous transformations over time. Until the French Revolution, the Bishops of Condom regularly stayed here to enjoy the tranquility of the countryside.
In 1819, Bertrand Duviard, descended from a family of surgeons established in Cassaigne since the mid-16th century, purchased the property — and his descendants still own it today.

The current façade, with its classical lines and harmonious proportions, radiates peace and serenity. The austere 13th-century walls support a Renaissance structure adorned with mullioned windows and 19th-century balconies.

Self-Guided Visit

Explore the château at your own pace and discover an exhibition detailing its rich history and the traditional techniques of Armagnac production.
In the oldest room of the château — its vaulted ceiling supported by three graceful Romanesque arches — a cellar was fitted out in the 18th century for aging Armagnac. Visitors can enjoy a short film about the vineyard and take part in a sensory experience using “scent organs.”
The 16th-century kitchen is a highlight of the visit, with its striking “bread-oven style” brick vaulting — a rare architectural feature.
Your tour concludes with a tasting of estate products, available for purchase in the boutique.
