Domaine Chartreuse de Mougères
CAUX , Hérault
Over
2000 years of winegrowing tradition began in Mougères, around a Gallo-Roman villa that already cultivated vines. A sanctuary in the Middle Ages, the Dominicans built their first monastery here in the 14th century.
In 1825, the Carthusian monks inherited the property, restored the buildings and reworked the vines with talent and generosity. In 2006, they leased the vines to Nicolas de Saint-Exupéry, from a five-generation Languedoc winegrowing family.
Encouraged by the quality of the work carried out at Mougères, the Carthusian monks sold the estate to Gersende and Nicolas de Saint-Exupéry in 2014, along with their know-how, their love of working the land and their winegrowing heritage.
Muscat petits grains, Maccabeo, Vermentino as well as Carignan, Syrah and Grenache: a whole range of quality grapes are used to revive one of the region’s finest estates and produce a wide range of authentic wines.
