Lourdes is the world's second largest Catholic pilgrimage city after Rome. It is also France's second largest hotel city after Paris, with millions of believers flocking in every year from 170 countries. Quite the phenomenon for a small town in the Pyrenees! Crowds began to congregate in Lourdes starting 1858, the year Bernadette Soubirous started seeing apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Take a stroll through the town to discover the places that marked her childhood.

Lourdes is world-famous for its sanctuary, but the town has many other tourist attractions, starting with the medieval castle which overlooks the old town.
