MUSÉE DE LA RÉSISTANCE ET DE LA DÉPORTATION DU GERS

AUCH , Gers – Cultural heritage

About

In the heart of Auch, “Grand Site de Midi-Pyrénées”, capital of the Gers and Gascony and a City of Art and History, Le Musée de la Résistance et de la Déportation exhibits objects, documents and other period pieces donated by former Resistance fighters. The museum ensures the conservation of these objects in the same way that it perpetuates the memory of the Resistance in the Gers. The progressive growth of the collections was the objective of the museum association when it was created in 1994. The exhibition halls lead visitors from the early stages of the Resistance through its development to the Liberation of the territory. The objects on display relate to WWII and include helmets, arms, the clothing of victims of deportation, flags, sabotage equipment, propaganda, amateur radios and mannequins in uniform. A collection of photographs also illustrates the period. A gallery dedicated to the deportation displays objects, documents, drawings and a memorial to the deportation victims of the Gers. Open Tuesdays and Thursdays in July and August from 2pm to 5pm.
