MUSEE ARCHEOLOGIQUE & SES III SALLES

LECTOURE , Gers – Cultural heritage

About

Nestled in the City Hall’s remarkable vaulted cellars, it is undoubtedly one of the oldest Museums in France. It tells the story of the city’s rich Gallo-Roman past and harbour’s the greatest collection of sacrificial stones in France as well as numerous fossils, prehistoric pieces, Gallic vases, jewelry, amphoras, sarcophagus and other everyday objects perfectly preserved.

In addition, the first floor accommodates the “Salle des Illustres”, an Italian like gallery displaying numerous paintings.

The City Hall also hides the “III Salles” (three rooms), which include the reconstitution of a 19th century apothecary’s shop, a room dedicated to Marshal Lannes and another dedicated to Admiral Boué de Lapeyrère, who were both illustrious people from Lectoure.
