ABBAYE CISTERCIENNE DE FLARAN (XII – XVIIIème)
VALENCE SUR BAISE , Gers – Cultural heritage
About
The Abbey of Flaran
Close to the town of Valence-Sur-Baïse, the Cistercian abbey of Flaran is one of the best preserved in the southwest of France. With its monastic buildings (church, cloister, capitular hall…) and its spacious gardens, this site is a must-see if you are nearby.
Marked by various historical events that have deteriorated the condition of the site, Flaran Abbey was purchased by the Gers department in 1972, allowing the place to be restored. In 2000, the site became the headquarters of the Departmental Conservation of Heritage and Museums.
During your visit, discover the collections of masterpieces by great artists from the 16th to the 20th century (Cézanne, Picasso, Rubens, Courbet, Rodin…) for a full immersion in European artistic movements. The Abbey of Flaran also offers numerous cultural activities all year long, such as temporary exhibitions, activities, music concerts…
