On the Occitanie Rail Tour

Discover Pont-Saint-Esprit

Pont-Saint-Esprit, on the banks of the Rhône, owes its name to its audacious bridge: nearly 1 km long, it still boasts 19 of its 25 ancient arches. Built between 1265 and 1309, the bridge fostered the development of the small trading town.

Nowadays, Pont-Saint-Esprit is still a market town, with some fine old and well-preserved mansions.

In Pont-Saint-Esprit, you'll enjoy :

  • Walking on the bridge to admire the lovely view on the River Rhône and the town.
  • The atmosphere of the open-air Provençal market, on Saturday morning.
  • If you're travelling with your mountain bike, riding on the Rhône Valley circuit (24 km) through the landscapes and vineyards of the Côtes du Rhône Gardoises.
  • Visiting the splendid Maison des Chevaliers, home to the Musée d'Art Sacré du Gard (museum of sacred art).
